I love BUNN coffee makers. They make great coffee in less time. Absolutely worth the price.I had owned a Bunn Heat and Brew (old version) for 10 years before it recently failed. I took a look at the new Heat and Brew and decided I would try something new. I purchased the Ninja 12 cup coffee maker (CE200) and liked the design and the coffee tasted pretty good or at least I thought so. There was something off and I just couldn't put my finger on it. My wife suggested I buy another coffee maker and do a taste test side by side. I picked up the Bunn-O-Matic CSB1 and set it up according to the instructions. I used the same amount of water, same amount of coffee etc., on the Ninja and Bunn. I set them in motion and a few (9 minutes for the Ninja, 3 minutes for the Bunn) minutes later I had 20 ounces of coffee. I put them in identical mugs and waited a minute or two and started my taste test. I only drink my coffee black so it was easy to taste the differences. I could also smell the differences. The Ninja produced a more acidic, lightly bitter brew. It also had a slight burnt aroma. It wasn't bad at all and I imagine a few weeks of it I might have gotten used to it. The Bunn on the other hand produced a very smooth, flavorful, cup of Joe. The aroma didn't have that burnt tinge to it either. It was an easy decision from there. Back went the Ninja (refund) and onto the counter went the Bunn. There are two things to be aware of before purchasing. The first is the always on tank heating feature of the unit. The water is always hot and ready to brew at a moments notice and it maintains a optimum temperature suited to make a great coffee. The always "on" may give some people concerns (safety and energy usage) which I understand, I am in the same boat. The unit itself is a little warm naturally because of the commercial (stainless steel) grade tank always maintaining water temperature but doesn't seem like it could start a fire. I am sure Bunn knows this or why would they sell it along with others designed the same way? The energy usage is more of a concern but I couldn't begin to tell you what the annual cost might be. I doubt it will wreck your finances though. The second concern is a design flaw in my opinion. The warming plate does not automatically shut off after a certain amount of time which means you better bring your "A" game in awareness. The indicator light is also a dim blue, tough to see so pay attention. I am the only coffee drinker in the house and have 20 ounces or so in the morning and that is it. A bit of a luxury with the always on, the speedy delivery, and great taste. The only other alternative for me is to purchase the new Bunn Heat and Brew. Not as fast (9 to 10 minutes) as it has to heat the water first, auto shut off (after 2 hours) for the warmer plate, and I am sure great coffee. Loving this new Bunn and am sure you will too.Update: 10-06-2019 Unit has a small leak/drip near the right hand corner where the seam comes together just above the "Bunn" logo. Have arranged to send this unit back and go with the Bunn CSB2G which is basically the same but designed a touch different. I am sure it was just my particular maker as I have not seen the same issue with others and it does brew outstanding coffee. You pour in 10 cups of water sometimes you get 10 cups, sometimes a pot almost over filled, sometimes 9 cups. The measurements they have in the water tank is not accurate. My other bunn is 100% accurate so I'll go back to that. I wasted money on this machine. Should have stayed with the older versionI always wanted to try Bunn coffee maker as I have heard/read great things about them. Reading some of the reviews I was sceptical about purchasing this or any models from Bunn. After talking to the Bunn customer service, they ensured me that if i followed the directions, i shouldn't have any issues and if i do, to contact them. They emphasized on making sure i poured 2 full carafes in before i plugged the brewer in. One concern I had was the heat, as someone had mentioned that the cabinet above theirs was warming up and water was evaporating. Bunn has addressed this by adding a switch to turn off the heater if the the brewer is not going to be used for more than a couple of days. Since I use mine daily, this is not an issue. Does the heater warm things up? Yes, but not to the point of causing the water to evaporate or heat my cabinet above to any concern or any more than my Keurig did. I believe following these steps mentioned from Bunn helps maintain the correct amount of water needed for an accurate brew. It had taken about a week for me to dial in the amount of water needed for my brews, but that is a end user usage, not an issue with Bunns. To this point in time, the brewer has been working great. Now as far as the flavor and perfect cup of coffee is why I gave this brewer a 4. I give 5s when I get the wow factor and unfortunately I did not. The one thing I am looking forward to is the longevity of the Brewer. I have had Cuisinart before and thought they made a good cup of coffee. So of other brands made brewers that last as long as these at the half price, I would consider them.We have used the Bunn brand for many years. The Bunn we bought 3 years ago had a horrible plastic burning smell and had to be returned, the next one only a slight smell that went away after just a few uses. In reading various reviews, it seems this has been a somewhat common problem with various models, but overall, there were many more positive reviews on all the models than reviews with the burning plastic smell. As we approached the end of the 3 year warranty period, our current pot began to have issues with putting out the whole pot of water, putting out part of the water, then after several minutes, the rest would come out. The coffee got made, but the wait period for the entire pot was longer, and kind of haphazard. So, after researching various models of Bunn as well as other brands, the decision to go with this model was made, as it was a good price. I am happy to report the coffee is great, and there is absolutely no hint of burning plastic smell. As to durability, I would expect this Bunn to last the 3 years it is intended to last and maybe longer. We always use filtered water out of the frig, to reduce lime build-up, which will extend the life of the product. Be sure to use the Bunn filters, you need the taller filters due to how the water flows over the grounds and you can avoid having grounds in your coffee by using the proper filters. Also, if you enjoy a good cup of coffee, use a good brand of coffee. No point to have a top model of coffee pot only to use cheap coffee!!
